Closing your FormationHub account
You can close your account anytime. Here's what happens and what to consider first.
Before you close
Check for active services
Registered Agent subscription: cancel first via the state-change process. Closing your account without ending the RA service first can lead to administrative dissolution of your LLC. See Switching Registered Agents.
Annual report filings: if we're filing on your behalf, cancel those services first.
BOI updates: same — cancel the recurring service if you don't want us filing future BOI updates.
Save your data
Download all your documents (Articles, EIN letter, OA, etc.)
Export your filing history
Save any conversation history with our support team
Account closure deletes most of this from our system; you won't be able to recover it later.
Consider your LLC's status
Closing your FormationHub account does NOT dissolve your LLC. The LLC continues to exist with the state until you formally dissolve it. Two separate decisions:
Close FormationHub account = stop using our service, get out of our system
Dissolve the LLC = legally end the business with the state (Articles of Dissolution)
If you also want to dissolve the LLC: see LLC dissolution — we can handle it.
How to close your account
Option 1: Via the portal
Sign in: https://www.formationhub.com/member
Account Settings → Data → Close my account
Read the confirmation about what will happen
Type "DELETE" to confirm
Click Permanently close account
Option 2: Via email
Email [email protected] with: - Subject: "Account closure request" - Your account email - Phone number (for identity verification) - Confirmation that you want everything deleted
We respond within 1 business day.
What happens after you close
Immediately
Your sign-in stops working
Active subscriptions are cancelled (RA service, annual report bundles, etc.)
We send a confirmation email to your last-on-file address
Within 30 days
We delete:
Profile data (name, address, phone)
Payment method records (our payment processor retains card data per their policy, separately)
Document files in our portal (Articles, EIN letter, etc.)
Mail-scan history
Communication preferences
Profile photo
Browsing / analytics data
Retained for 7 years (legal requirement)
Filing records (we're a Registered Agent, state records require retention)
Tax-relevant records (W-9s issued, 1099s, etc.)
Payment-processor records (per their retention policy)
BOI filing records (FinCEN requires retention)
After 7 years, even these are deleted unless legally required to be retained longer.
What we CANNOT delete
LLC formation records on the state's website — those are public record, only the state can affect them
EIN records with the IRS — the IRS retains these regardless of our involvement
BOI records with FinCEN — federal requirement
Tax records you've filed yourself — IRS retention
Closing your FormationHub account doesn't make your LLC invisible. It only removes you from OUR systems.
What if you change your mind?
You have 14 days after closure to reactivate by emailing [email protected] from the original account email. After 14 days, the account is permanently gone and you'd need to create a new one.
If you reactivate: - Profile data is restored - Active subscriptions are NOT auto-renewed (you'd resubscribe manually) - Document files are restored if still within the 30-day deletion window - Communication preferences default to "transactional only"
GDPR / CCPA rights
Account closure honors your "right to be forgotten" under GDPR and "right to delete" under CCPA. Specifically:
We delete personal data within 30 days
We don't retain marketing-purpose data after closure
We can provide a written confirmation of deletion on request
If you're an EU or California resident, you also have: - Right to access: download all your data before closing (Account Settings → Data → Download) - Right to portability: receive your data in machine-readable JSON format - Right to correct: update any inaccurate data before deletion
Special situations
Deceased account holder
If the account holder has passed away, contact [email protected] with: - Death certificate - Documentation of your authority (executor, power of attorney, etc.) - Decision: close the account, or transfer to a beneficiary
We treat these with care and there's no rush — we'll work with your timeline.
Court-ordered deletion
If a court orders deletion (e.g., bankruptcy proceedings), forward the order to [email protected]. We comply with valid US court orders.
Identity theft / fraudulent account
If you discovered an account was created in your name without consent: - Email [email protected] immediately - We freeze the account within 1 business hour - We work with you to verify identity + assist with any necessary actions - Police report + FTC complaint recommended
After closing
You won't hear from us again unless: - A legal requirement compels us to contact you (rare; usually involves court orders or tax notices) - Marketing communications are entirely stopped immediately
If you ever want to come back, you can create a new account anytime.
Common questions
"Will closing my account dissolve my LLC?"
No. The LLC continues to exist with the state. Closing your FormationHub account just removes you from our system.
"Can I keep using FormationHub as my Registered Agent but close my account?"
No. The RA service requires an active account. To keep RA service, keep the account.
"Will my information be sold to a data broker after I close?"
No. We never sell customer data, before or after closure.
"How long do I have to download my data before closure?"
You can download data anytime up to the moment of closure. After closure, you have 14 days to reactivate and download. After 14 days, the data is permanently deleted.
"Can someone else open an account with my email after I close?"
Yes. We don't permanently "blacklist" emails. After your account is fully deleted, the email is reusable.
