You can close your account anytime. Here's what to know before you do, and how the process works.

Before you close

Check for active services

  • Registered Agent subscription: cancel this first via the state-change process. Closing your account without ending RA service first can lead to administrative dissolution of your LLC. See Switching Registered Agents.

  • Annual report filings: if we're filing on your behalf, cancel that service first.

  • BOI updates: same — cancel the recurring service if you don't want us filing future BOI updates.

Save what you need first

  • Download your documents (Articles, EIN letter, Operating Agreement, etc.) from your Documents page in the portal — you won't be able to access the portal once your account is closed.

  • Want a copy of your filing history or past support conversations? Ask us before you close and we'll send them over.

Consider your LLC's status

Closing your FormationHub account does NOT dissolve your LLC. The LLC continues to exist with the state until you formally dissolve it. Two separate decisions:

  • Close FormationHub account = stop using our service, get out of our system

  • Dissolve the LLC = legally end the business with the state (Articles of Dissolution)

We don't offer an LLC dissolution filing service. If you want to dissolve the LLC, you'll file Articles of Dissolution with your state directly, or work with an attorney or CPA.

How to close your account

Account closure is handled by our support team, not a self-serve portal setting. Email [email protected] (or start a chat) with:

  • Subject: "Account closure request"

  • Your account email

  • Confirmation that you'd like the account closed

We'll verify it's really you, cancel any active subscriptions tied to the account (RA service, annual report filings, BOI updates), and confirm once it's done. We typically respond within an hour.

What happens after you close

Right away

  • Your sign-in stops working

  • Active subscriptions are cancelled (RA service, annual report bundles, BOI update service, etc.)

  • We send a confirmation email to your account address

Your data

We remove your profile and portal documents from our active systems. Some records have to be retained even after your account closes because we're legally required to — for example, Registered Agent and filing records, tax forms we've issued (W-9s, 1099s), and BOI filing records FinCEN requires us to keep.

What we can't delete

  • LLC formation records on the state's website — those are public record, only the state can affect them

  • EIN records with the IRS — the IRS retains these regardless of our involvement

  • BOI records with FinCEN — federal requirement

  • Tax records you've filed yourself — IRS retention

Closing your FormationHub account doesn't make your LLC invisible. It only removes you from OUR systems.

Contact [email protected] as soon as possible. What we can restore depends on how long it's been and what's still recoverable on our end, so the sooner you reach out, the more we can typically help with.

Common questions

"Will closing my account dissolve my LLC?"

No. The LLC continues to exist with the state. Closing your FormationHub account just removes you from our system.

"Can I keep using FormationHub as my Registered Agent but close my account?"

No. The RA service requires an active account. To keep RA service, keep the account.

"Will my information be sold to a data broker after I close?"

No. We don't sell customer data, before or after closure.

"What should I download before I close?"

Anything you want to keep — Articles, EIN letter, Operating Agreement, and any other documents in your Documents page. Do this before you request closure, since you won't be able to log in afterward. If you forget something, contact support and we'll see what we can send you.

"Can someone else open an account with my email after I close?"

Yes, once your account has been fully closed out on our end — we don't permanently block email addresses from being reused.
