Updating your account info (email, phone, name)
This article walks through what you can update yourself in your FormationHub account, and what requires support's help.
Email address
Your account email is used for:
Signing in
Receiving order and account notifications
Password-reset links
Email isn't a self-serve field — in Account Settings it shows up read-only. To change it, sign in and open a chat, or email [email protected], with your name, business name, and current + new email address. Support will verify your identity (for example, the last 4 digits of the card on file, a filing ID, or your EIN) and update it on your account directly.
Phone number
Your phone number is used for identity verification when you contact support, and as the contact number we have on file for your filings.
To change it:
Sign in at formationhub.com/member/login
Go to Account Settings → Account Information
Click Edit, update the Phone field, then Save
Full legal name
Your account name is used for:
Tax documents
Identity verification with our support team
BOI reporting, if applicable
To change it:
Account Settings → Account Information → Edit
Update First Name / Last Name
Save
It's a plain text field, so there's no proof required for a name change (for example, after marriage or divorce).
Note: your account name is separate from your LLC's name of record with the state. If you've already filed with us, the name on your Articles of Organization stays whatever was filed — changing your account name doesn't change the state record. To update the state filing itself, you'd need to file Articles of Amendment. Open a chat and we'll help — the total cost is our service fee plus whatever the state charges for the amendment, which varies by state.
Mailing / physical address
There isn't a self-serve address field in Account Settings today. If you need to update an address tied to your account or a filing — for example, you moved — open a chat and we'll update it for you, and flag whether it also requires a state amendment.
Note: this is different from your Registered Agent's address (see Switching your Registered Agent) and different from your LLC's official business address as filed with the state.
Password
Used for sign-in, alongside the email login link on the sign-in page.
There's no in-portal "change password" form. To set or replace your password:
Enter your account email
We'll email a link to set a new password (the link is valid for 72 hours)
Click it, enter your new password twice, and save
This is the same flow whether you're setting a password for the first time or replacing an existing one.
Password requirements: 8-128 characters. No other complexity rules.
Recommended: use a password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, etc.) to generate and store it, and keep it unique to FormationHub rather than reusing one from another site.
Account emails
We don't currently offer a self-serve communication-preferences page. Emails tied to your orders and filings — confirmations, status updates, and similar — go to your account email automatically and can't be turned off, since they're how you stay informed about work in progress. If you have a question about a specific email you received, contact support and reference it.
Confirming a change saved
After updating a field, reopen Account Settings → Account Information to confirm it saved. If you changed your password, you'll need to sign in again using the new one.
Common questions
"Can I have a different name on my account vs. on my LLC filing?"
Yes. Your account name is for our internal records. The LLC filing name (the responsible party on the Articles) is what the state has on record.
"I'm changing my legal name because of marriage / divorce. Do I need to update my LLC?"
Updating your account: yes, do that now. Updating the LLC filing depends on whether you were named as a member on the Articles. If so, you'd need to file Articles of Amendment with the state — open a chat and we can help; cost is our service fee plus the state's amendment fee.
"Can I delete my account?"
Account closure isn't self-serve — contact support and we'll take care of it for you. See Closing your account for what that involves.
"Can I share my account with a co-founder or add them to it?"
Not currently — FormationHub accounts are single-user, so each person who needs access should create their own account. If more than one of you needs to reach support about the same business, that's fine — just mention the business name and a filing ID or order number so we can find your records.
