Mistakes happen — maybe you left off an apartment number, mistyped an email, or need to add a business partner. What you can change, and how, depends mainly on whether your LLC has already been filed with the state.
Right now, corrections like these go through our support team rather than self-serve editing — with one exception: if you purchased the Operating Agreement add-on, you can update ownership details yourself in the Member's Portal (see below).
If your LLC has not yet been submitted to the state, corrections are free. Send us the corrected information — full address (including apartment/unit number), updated business name, corrected email, or member list — through chat or email, and we'll apply it to your order before we submit it to the state. We process these as fast as possible based on your order's priority and our current queue.
If your LLC has already been submitted and is pending state approval, contact us right away — we may still be able to update the details before the state processes the filing. Once the state has approved the filing, the original submission can no longer be edited directly, and a formal state amendment is required. Fees and processes for amendments vary by state, so we'll connect you with a specialist who can quote the exact cost and next steps for your situation. If the error originated on our side, we cover the cost of the amendment; if it's based on information you originally gave us, any state fee to correct it would apply to you.
Adding or removing an owner (member) works differently than you might expect. Most states don't require ownership information as part of the initial LLC filing at all — that filing simply registers your business with the state. Instead, ownership, percentages, and decision-making are documented in your Operating Agreement, a separate legal document. If you purchased our Operating Agreement service, log in to your Member's Portal to add or update owners there. If you didn't purchase it, you're welcome to prepare your own Operating Agreement, or add the service to your order — it costs the same whether you buy it now or later. Trouble logging in? Choose 'Email me a link' on the portal login page for a one-time sign-in link (valid for 7 days).
Want to remove an add-on, like an S-corp tax election, before it's been processed? Just let us know — we'll cancel it, refund that amount, and keep the rest of your LLC filing moving.
If your EIN (SS-4) application hasn't been submitted to the IRS yet, we can still update the owner's name, SSN, or address on that form. Message or call us with the corrected details before that submission happens.
Some requests — like withdrawing or changing a filing the state has already approved, before we can amend it — can only be handled by the state directly. If that's your situation, we'll point you to the right state office.
FormationHub handles LLC formation only — we don't offer entity-type conversions (for example, changing an LLC to a C-corp, S-corp corporation, or other structure). If you need to convert to a different entity type, an attorney or CPA can advise you on the right process for your state; FormationHub isn't a law firm and can't provide legal advice on which structure is right for you.
Step by step
Message us in chat or reply to any FormationHub email with the corrected information (full name, complete address, or partner's details).
We'll confirm the details back to you and note them on your order.
If your LLC hasn't been filed yet, we apply the correction for free, as fast as possible based on your order's priority and our queue.
If it's already been filed and approved, we'll connect you with a specialist to quote the cost and process for a state amendment — at our cost if the error was ours, or a state fee if it was based on information you provided.
To add or remove an owner, complete or update your Operating Agreement in the Member's Portal, or ask us to prepare one for you if you haven't purchased that service.
