FormationHub is not a government agency. We're a private company that helps you prepare and submit LLC paperwork to your state, but we are not your state's Secretary of State or business/corporations division, and we don't have access to their systems or records.
If your question is about a business you already formed — checking whether it's still active, renewing a license, paying an annual report or reinstatement fee, amending your business name, or responding to a letter or deactivation notice from the state — that request has to go through your state's own office. We can't look up, change, or pay anything in your state's records on your behalf.
If you're not sure which office to contact, check our Help Center's Secretary of State directory, which lists the phone number and website for every state's business filing office. You can also reach out to our support team and we'll point you to the right number.
When you call your state office, mention exactly what you need (for example, 'I need to amend my LLC's name' or 'I want to reinstate my business') so that if you're routed to the wrong department, the representative can transfer you directly to the right one the first time.
If you're deciding whether to file directly with your state yourself or use FormationHub to file for you: filing yourself means you only pay your state's filing fee. Using FormationHub means paying both your state's filing fee and our service fee, and in exchange we handle the paperwork for you.
FormationHub handles new business formations submitted through our site. We don't process payments, renewals, reinstatements, or annual licensing fees for businesses that are already established — those requests go through your state directly.
If you're worried that your business name might be too close to another company's, we can only tell you what your state's name-availability check returns when you search or file. Passing that check doesn't create trademark rights and doesn't guarantee there's no conflict with another business — and FormationHub isn't a law firm, so we can't assess trademark risk for you. For real conflict concerns, a trademark attorney is the right resource.
Step by step
Identify which state your business is (or would be) registered in.
Check our Help Center's Secretary of State directory for your state's phone number and website, or search '[your state] Secretary of State business division' / '[your state] corporations division,' or check your state's official .gov site directly.
Have your specific request ready before you call (e.g., amend a name, reinstate a business, check active status, pay a renewal or licensing fee).
If you're routed to the wrong department, tell the representative your specific need and ask to be transferred to the correct one.
