Updating your account info (email, phone, address)
This article walks through changing each piece of your account profile.
Email address
Your account email is used for: - Sign-in - Receiving notifications - Password recovery
To change it: 1. Sign in: https://www.formationhub.com/member 2. Go to Account Settings → Profile 3. Click Edit next to Email 4. Enter the new email 5. We send a verification link to BOTH the old and new addresses 6. Click both verification links within 24 hours to confirm the change 7. Sign in with the new email going forward
Why two confirmations? To prevent account takeover. An attacker who steals your password shouldn't be able to silently move your account to their email.
If you can't access the old email (lost the account, employer revoked access, etc.): - Open a chat with: your new email, your phone number, your business name, and at least one of (last 4 of card on file, filing ID, EIN) - We'll verify identity and update manually — typically 1-3 business hours
Phone number
Used for: - SMS notifications (if opted in) - 2FA via SMS (less secure than authenticator-app 2FA; we recommend app-based) - Identity verification when contacting support
To change: 1. Account Settings → Profile → Edit Phone 2. Enter the new number (international format starts with +, e.g., +15551112222) 3. We send a 6-digit code via SMS to the new number 4. Enter the code; phone is verified
If you don't get the SMS code: - Check carrier blocking (some carriers block short-code SMS by default) - Try a different number (some VoIP numbers like Google Voice aren't supported for 2FA but work for general notifications) - Skip SMS 2FA entirely and use an authenticator app
Home / mailing address
Used for: - Initial LLC filing (state requires the responsible party's address) - Payment processor billing address verification
To change: 1. Account Settings → Profile → Edit Address 2. Enter the new address (street, city, state, ZIP, country) 3. Click Save — no re-verification needed
Note: this is your PERSONAL address, NOT the business's registered address. To change the business address, see Registered Agent → Switching (for RA address) or open a chat (for business mailing address as filed with the state).
Full legal name
Used for: - Tax documents (1099s, etc.) - Identity verification with state filings - BOI reporting (if applicable)
To change: 1. Account Settings → Profile → Edit Name 2. Enter new first + last name as it appears on your government ID 3. We may ask for proof if the change is significant (e.g., post-marriage name change) 4. Save
Note: if you've already filed an LLC with us, your name AS FILED with the state stays whatever was on the Articles of Organization. Changing your account name doesn't change the state record. To update the state filing, you'd need an Articles of Amendment ($XX + state's amendment fee).
Password
Used for sign-in.
To change: 1. Account Settings → Security → Change Password 2. Enter current password (for verification) 3. Enter new password twice 4. Save
Password requirements: - 12+ characters - At least 1 number - At least 1 symbol - Not similar to your email or business name
Recommended: - Use a password manager (1Password, Bitwarden, etc.) to generate + store - Unique to FormationHub (don't reuse from other sites) - Enable 2FA after setting a new password (2FA setup guide)
Communication preferences
To control what emails / SMS we send:
Account Settings → Communication preferences
Toggle individual notification types: - Transactional (always on — order confirmations, status updates, security alerts) - Compliance reminders (recommended on — deadline alerts) - Marketing (off by default unless you opted in) - SMS for time-critical alerts (opt-in)
Note: transactional emails (those tied to specific actions you took, like order confirmations) cannot be disabled. We're legally required to send them and they're how you stay informed about your filings.
Profile photo
Optional, for support staff to recognize you faster.
Account Settings → Profile → Upload photo
Choose a JPG / PNG, max 2 MB
Save
Visible only to: - You (in the portal) - FormationHub support staff (in their admin tool) - NOT public anywhere
Verifying changes
After making any profile changes: 1. Sign out and sign back in (verifies the new credentials work) 2. Check Account Settings → Profile to confirm changes saved 3. Send yourself a test email (use the "Send test email" button in Communication preferences if available)
Common questions
"Can I have a different name on my account vs. on my LLC filing?"
Yes. The account name is for our internal records. The LLC filing name (the responsible party on the Articles) is what the state has on record.
"I'm changing my legal name because of marriage / divorce. Do I need to update my LLC?"
Updating your account: yes, do that now. Updating the LLC filing: depends on whether you were named as a member on the Articles. If yes, file Articles of Amendment with the state (we can help, $XX + state fee).
"Can I delete my account?"
Yes, but it's not just a checkbox — see Closing your account.
"What if I share an account with my spouse / co-founder?"
We don't currently support shared accounts. Each person should have their own account. Workaround: share the login credentials via a password manager, but understand that 2FA + audit logs assume one person per account.
"I need to add a co-founder / partner to the account"
Multi-user accounts are on the roadmap for Q3 2026. For now: each person needs their own account.
